School History

James Jennings entered Curry N.S. on July 4th 1884 and is believed to be its first pupil. Back then the school catered for both boys and girls where they were taught in separate buildings – up until 1934 when boys and girls were mixed. School records show that 2039 girls and 2096 boys attended Curry N.S. up to 1975. In this year the three schools in the locality were amalgamated and formed Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, of which Mr. Padraig Owens became the first principal. Through the years the schools numbers have been in a slow decline and the school had just three teachers up until 2006. However this pattern has been reversed somewhat and now we are in the healthy position of having 89 children on the roll and have four class teachers as well as Learning Support 5 days/week. The current Principal is Mr. Paschal Gallagher and the Deputy Principal is Mrs. Laura Mullarkey.
